Kylie Krippner, owner of U-Fly flight experience and scenic tours

Kylie Krippner spent the first 15 years of her working life starting up and operating a boating business on a glacier lake in Mount Cook National Park.  This environment founded her love of the big mountains, ski-planes, helicopters, & remote places.

During this time Kylie acquired her Pilots License and spent 5 years flying in and around the Mount Cook Region as a private pilot before selling her business and deciding to fly commercially.   Fifteen years in Mount Cook Village gave Kylie plenty of time to ponder where on earth she would next call home.  Wanaka, set in the stunning Southern Lakes Region won her over hands down, offering numerous large glacial calved lakes, great weather and spectacular mountains in the back-yard.

Whilst obtaining her ‘C’ Category Instructors rating she acquired her first job flying tourists in the Cessna 206 to Milford Sound, Mount Aspiring and back to her old stomping ground, Mount Cook.
Other work over the past 5 years has included flying with foreign pilots on ‘flying holiday’s’ around New Zealand, instructing Micro-light and GA students, including instructing aerobatics.

She managed to place first at her first National Aerobatics Competition.

The quiet winter season has led Kylie to work abroad, having spent many seasons guiding in Greenland and Norway, and her adventurous spirit has led her to Antarctica on several occasions where she became the first New Zealand woman to ski to the South Pole.  Kylie says “It was flying around in Twin Otters in Antarctica that made me really want to work as a pilot -  providing support and access to the outside world for those in a remote environment”.

In January 2014 Kylie purchased U-FLY Wanaka, a company specialising in Scenic Flights and Microlight flight training based from Wanaka Airport.  “I intend to expand so that we can fly couples, families and small groups”.  Our focus is to give visitors the opportunity to fly the plane themselves whislt soaking in the wonderful scenery surrounding us”.  The photographic opportunities are abundant just minutes from the airfield and Kylie has a knowledge of geology, particularly glaciation which she includes in a very informative spiel…

“U-FLY is a product for those seeking a superior product to our competitors.  We offer safe and comfortable aircraft, and the newest fixed-wing aircraft on the airfield.  A no rushing, friendly and personalised flying experience”.

In 2013 Kylie married aerobatic pilot and instructor, Ivan Krippner.  Also based at Wanaka airport and operating “Southern Lakes Learn To Fly” he, together with Kylie, can offer pilots and tourists a wide range of flying experiences and expertise.

"This is a must do when visiting New Zealand - the U-Fly staff are so helpful and obliging - nothing is a trouble + the opportunity to fly a plane yourself is sensational."
