New Zealand Wine Tours

In the past ten years new Zealand has trebled its wine production to over 200 million litres giving wine connoisseurs and enthusiasts (not always the same thing) a wide range of choices. The options for wine tours in New Zealand has matched that growth with visitors to each different region able to specify their tastes for pinot noir, Riesling, sauvignon blanc and chardonnay.

From the warmer and more humid northern regions of Northland, Auckland and Gisborne, to the more arid areas of Marlborough and Central Otago, the wine growing regions span the latitudes of 36 to 45 degrees and covers approximately 1,600 kilometres encompassing the northern hemisphere equivalent of Bordeaux (between the latitudes of 44 and 46 degrees) down to southern Spain.

Central Otago in particular has established a strong international reputation for pinot noir, with wine tours taking you to smaller holdings with a boutique winery on the property to large commercial holdings producing large production runs for a number of vineyards.

Wine tours in the different areas range from small personalised trips up to larger bus tours. Half day and full day options with lunch are available. Another option is a scenic flight over the vineyards giving you a stunning overview of the region followed by a wine tour - with your host behind the wheel- to finish off the experience with a sampling of the product.

"This is a must do when visiting New Zealand - the U-Fly staff are so helpful and obliging - nothing is a trouble + the opportunity to fly a plane yourself is sensational."
